Council Vacancy
A vacancy has arisen on our City Council representing Ward 3. The Council is the engine of local governance, responsible for deciding how we invest our tax dollars, how we support our schools and businesses, how we ensure public safety, and how we preserve the character and heritage that make Las Animas unique. When a seat on that Council is empty, the voices and concerns of one segment of our city risk going unheard. We cannot allow that to happen.\ \ Today, I am announcing the formal call for letters of interest from any and all qualified residents of Ward 3 who believe they have the vision, the dedication, and the integrity to serve on the City Council. We seek a leader who:\ \ • Understands the day-to-day challenges faced by working families, entrepreneurs, students, and seniors in our community\ • Is committed to transparent and accountable decision-making\ • Brings fresh ideas and pragmatic solutions to issues such as public safety, infrastructure repair, economic development, and environmental stewardship\ • Has a record of community involvement and a willingness to collaborate with fellow Council members, City staff, and citizens at large\ \ If this description resonates with you—or if you know of a neighbor, friend, or colleague who fits this profile—I encourage you to act now. Submit your letter of interest to my office. In your letter, please include:\ \
- A brief statement of your background and qualifications\
- An outline of the priorities you would champion on Council\
- Any previous public-service or leadership experiences\
- Your contact information and confirmation of residency in Ward 3\ \ Letters will be accepted on a rolling basis until the vacancy is filled. There is no rigid deadline; we want to move swiftly, but we also want to ensure we hear from everyone who has something to offer.\ \ I urge each of you to consider seriously whether you might be the right person for this job. Serving on the City Council is demanding. It requires hours of meetings, thoughtful deliberation, and a readiness to listen. It demands integrity, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to the common good. But it also offers the unparalleled reward of shaping policy in ways that lift lives and strengthen neighborhoods.\ \ If public service calls to you, or if you know someone whose talents and values align with these needs, please prepare your letter of interest and deliver it to my office. You may hand-deliver it to City Hall during regular business hours, mail it to PO Box 468, or email it to mayor@lasanimas.city . Should you have any questions about the process, feel free to contact my office at (719) 456-0806.\ \ \ Thank you.
