Council Appoints New City Clerk/Treasurer

At the December 10, 2024 meeting of the Las Animas City Council, the council approved by a unanimous vote to appoint the acting Deputy Clerk, Frank Schmeiser, as the new Clerk and Treasurer for the City of Las Animas.

Schmeiser had originally been hired as the Front Office Manager to assist the former Clerk and Recorder in daily duties of Administration and Accounting for the city. He also came in with familiarity of the city operations as he is a former Las Animas City Councilman.

With the sudden resignation of the former clerk, Schmeiser stepped up and assumed the Deputy Clerk position so that the day to day operations of the city could continue without disruption. We have been blessed to have the former long time clerk, Charmaine Tripp, help us with the training of the new clerk. With her recommendation to the City Council on December 10, 2024 they voted unanimously to appoint Schmeiser as the Clerk/Recorder for the City of Las Animas.

Schmeiser has since selected Amber Dean to fill the position of Deputy Clerk for the City of Las Animas. Amber has been a city employee working the front desk of the utilities office since December of 2022. Amber brings a skillset that includes accounting, management, customer service and all the necessary qualifications to fill the vacancy to afford the city a smooth transition into what the future brings.
